Consciousness: The Seminar
Instructor: Steve Perrin
Location: Abbe Museum, 26 Mount Desert Street, Bar Harbor.
Course Meets: Wednesdays, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Course Size: 5-15 students
Starts: April 4, 2012
Ends: May 16, 2012
Description:
This course is based on what we can learn from personal errors of a perceptual nature. The teacher (whose book is based on a sampling of his own errors) hopes to promote acceptance of ourselves as mortal human beings (opposed to paragons of wisdom and virtue). Beyond better self-understanding, the goal is to develop acceptance of others for who they are rather than who we wish them to be. Seminar participants will reflect on mental life from their own experience.
Instructor: Steve Perrin- “Since writing my dissertation at Boston University in 1982, I have been conducting an introspective exploration of my own mind to see if I couldn’t figure out how it works. I have recently published (Lulu.com) the findings of that thirty-year study in book form, Consciousness: The Book. I have also written and illustrated four books about MDI. I did my undergraduate work at MIT and Columbia, and have taught English, poetry, and photography on the secondary level.”
