Location: Southwest Harbor Public Library, Clark Room, Main St, Southwest Harbor
Course Meets: Thursdays, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Course Size: 5-15 students
Starts: September 2, 2010
Ends: October 21, 2010
Description:
Why are humans the way we are? What does it mean to say that we share 98% of our genes with chimpanzees? When (and why) did human evolution part ways with the evolution of frogs? How does the science of evolution address such questions? Through texts, readings, and discussions, the course will consider pre-Darwinian beliefs, the Darwin-Wallace revolution, and will then focus on selected aspects of modern evolutionary science, a massive work still in process. We will consider the myriad implications of evolution for the human species.
