Description:

In this course we will learn about basic genetics, the history of genetics, the structure and function of DNA, and the push and rapid success in sequencing the human genome. Also learn what the sequencing now tells us about our recent evolution, related hominids, our species, and the great human diaspora out of Africa 70,000 years ago. We will look at the path out of Africa to today, our continuing rapid evolution; genetic diversity, the new personal genetic medicine, 23andME, FamilyTreeDNA. How will we use this information to know our personal medical predispositions and how will we act on that information? What advances can be made in the personal tracing of ancestry, genetics and genealogy? Join us to learn something about “Human DNA Today.”
