Description:
Mah Jongg is an ancient Chinese game played with tiles and racks. We will be learning the American version which became wildly popular in the U.S. during the 1920s-30s and has experienced a recent resurgence in interest. We will play by the rules of the National Mah Jongg League, Inc. which has been in existence for 73 years and annually publishes a card of standard hands. Called the game of “Chattering Sparrows” it requires not only skill but also luck thus guaranteeing a good time always.
Instructor: Joy Ryan has both a Masters in Special Education from the University of Cincinnati and a Masters in Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh. She has been a Children’s Librarian and has worked in a number of programs in Special Education. She plays in two weekly Mah Jongg groups.
