Description: As the late 1800s rolled into the 1900s, American culture was poised for change. We were at the moment of transition to a new era—an era of machinery and mobility, of abundance, and of consumer goods only dreamed of in earlier times. In the new century, a great deal of heavy physical labor would be done by new machines, and luxuries that had been available only to the wealthy would finally come within reach of the ordinary working family. Topics will include: Industrial Roots; Genealogy of an Auto Maker; Enter the Bicycle; The Quest for Personal Transportation; Powering the Automobile; Racing, Touring, and Consuming.
