Dr. Marc Gousse is the Superintendent of our MDI Schools. He is a lifelong resident of Maine, raised in Lewiston.  He is a graduate of the Maine Maritime Academy with a BS degree is Nautical Science and a minor in Humanities.  Commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S Navy, Gousse served worldwide aboard  break-bulk cargo ships, container vessels, supply vessels and tankers. In concert with shipping assignments, he began his career in education as a substitute teacher. It was there that Marc discovered his calling: a passion for people, teaching and learning.

After further education at Bates and the University of Southern Maine, Gousse received his doctoral degree in educational administration at California Coast University. He has held teaching positions and coaching positions in various schools in Maine.  In June of 2016, he was named to his present role as Superintendent of Schools for the Mount Desert Island Regional School System.

He and his wife of 36 years, Jeanne, currently reside near Bar Harbor, Maine.
