Nat Fenton and Bill Horner will speak about Gun Control. Topics will include US and Maine constitutional amendments pertaining to the rights to bear arms and several court cases interpreting those provisions. Data on firearm injuries and deaths, gun ownership in the US, handguns in homes, the .233 Remington load, "assault rifles", and the infamous AR-15 will be presented.
The hot buffet, at Birch Bay Village in Hulls Cove, begins at 11:30 and costs $12; the lecture is from noon to 1:00. Bill Horner grew up in Bar Harbor, went to Bar Harbor High School, Dartmouth, Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and had 5 years of surgical training in Hartford and Portland, ME. Additionally, he did a fellowship in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care in Pittsburgh. Bill practiced briefly in Bar Harbor and Portland before landing in Bangor for the bulk of his surgical career. His interest in and advocacy for gun safety is based around his son's death.
Nat Fenton has resided in the MDI area for 71 years. He attended Bar Harbor elementary school, St. Mark’s School, Bowdoin College and Cornell Law School. Returning to Bar Harbor, Nat has practiced law in Bar Harbor for 43 years and Ellsworth for 3 years. He has participated in local municipal affairs and the operations of local nonprofits. He is married to Sugar and has three children.
