History of Opera
October 26, 2018
11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Birch Bay Village Inn
Opera was invented in the late 1500s as part of what was believed to be a revival of ancient Greek theater. It has developed to today's world-wide broadcasts of Live from the Met. My talk will focus on the first two centuries of opera, through Mozart. We will listen to some highlights of operas from that time period ending with some famous Mozart arias.
The hot buffet, at Birch Bay Village in Hulls Cove, begins at 11:30 and costs $12; the lecture is from noon to 1:00. Reservations are required for either and must be received by noon Wednesday, October 24th. Contact Acadia Senior College at 288-9500 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. This event is open to the public.
Bob Gallon is a clinical psychologist by profession, but a musician by avocation. He was the tuba player for the Bangor Symphony for 30 years until he retired last year. He has taught numerous music courses for Acadia Senior College. He is planning to teach The History of Opera, Part 3 this spring.
