LifeFlight: There When Needed
October 23, 2020
12:00 Noon
Virtual presentation via Zoom
Come hear about LifeFlight’s mission: providing critical care and transport to patients across the state when they need it most.
With the COVID pandemic and yet another upheaval in national healthcare policy underway, this presentation provides lessons from the sharp end of emergency care in the system design, policy, evidence, and expectation crucible. LifeFlight is a unique provider of critical care throughout Maine is nationally and internationally recognized for innovation, community service, quality, and safety.
Working with local EMS and hospitals, LifeFlight clinical teams transport more than 2,200 patients each year with helicopters, an airplane, and dedicated ground ambulances. More than 28,000 patients and families have been served since LifeFlight began in 1998, including more than 800 people from Mount Desert Island.
People who wouldn’t have survived a few years ago, today recover and return home to lead full lives. They return to work and to school. Patients get a second chance, families remain whole across generations, and communities are stronger.
LifeFlight has evolved over the last two decades to become an internationally recognized organization, a leader in innovation, quality, and safety. Thomas Judge, LifeFlight’s Executive Director will discuss Maine’s integrated critical care transport system, and how the organization is working to build a sustainable model for rural critical care and transport.
LifeFlight of Maine is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit air medical and critical care transport organization. LifeFlight brings lifesaving staff and equipment directly to the patient by helicopter, airplane and ground ambulance. It also provides advanced emergency medical training to Maine’s hospitals, emergency medical services (EMS) and public safety agencies. Overseen by 25 physicians, LifeFlight cares for patients from every hospital and nearly all of Maine’s communities and islands.
