Death Cafe

April 30, 2021

3:00 - 4:30 p.m.

Online discussion via Zoom

The Palliative Care Advisory Committee at MDI Hospital will host a Death Cafe on April 30th, 3 - 4:30 PM via Zoom. Death Cafe is a get together for the purpose of talking about death over food and drink, usually tea and cake, which helps to create an informal, safe, and nurturing environment for talking about a difficult subject. Participants can discuss their understanding, thoughts, dreams, fears and all other areas of death and dying at these gatherings. The goal of a death cafe is to increase awareness of death and dying with a view to helping people make the most of their finite lives. Death Cafe is not a bereavement or support group, but rather an open forum for respectful discussion about issues surrounding life and death.

The hosts for the death cafe will be Cookie Horner, long time hospice volunteer and member of the MDI Hospital Palliative Care Advisory, Carla Tanguay, music therapist and member of the Palliative Care Advisory, Gerry Gregersen, former program director at Hospice Volunteers of Hancock County, and Leanne Rhodes, community member with experience in death cafes.
