Hank Schmelzer studied Italian for 12 years at Berlitz School in Boston and has traveled and conversed extensively in Italy during some 70 visits to the country. His favorite area in Italy is the mountains of the Dolomites where he and his wife have skied and hiked every year for over 30 years. He is a faithful reader of Italian literature from Pirandello to Eco, including popular Italian detective stories. He has taught several courses at ASC on Italian language, conversation and culture. Hank had a career in financial services in Boston, serving as a lawyer and president of a small mutual fund company. He was a fellow at the Kennedy school at Harvard and served as president of the Maine Community Foundation.
